Day 89

Oct 13
Miles:  15.3 + 2 miles off trail = 17.3
PCT:  957.9 – 973.2
Total Miles:  1025.2
Elevation gain:  3660

steep peaks, all hard rock surfaces.  worst day ever..  beautiful day.  more trouble with water. right knee trouble.

This was the most difficult day I can remember.  The climbs were so steep, I crawled up them.  My feet were shredded by the rocks.  I decided to cut the day short, just before a last huge climb.  I couldn’t take any more pain.  On top of that, I accidentally went off trail again adding 2 wasted miles to the day.

It was another beautiful weather day.  I really can’t complain about the weather so far in the Sierras.

I had trouble again with water.  The reliable sources are coming up dry.  This means that I have to carry more water in case the next source is not there.  Bummer.

You can see why a second trail is created.  Water washes out the original trail, leaving roots exposed and blocking the path.  Lots of times they are filled with rocks, making them impassable.
