Total Miles: 1070.4
Elevation gain: ?
This was the last day of this section. Only about 12 miles and nice climbs. I don’t have the elevation but there were some pretty long climbs and descents. The trail was marvelous to walk on most of the day. Some sections had a lot of large loose rock, which sucked, but mostly, soft sand and gravel. The landscape looked like the surface of the moon, with few trees and mountains of sand and rocks.
I have been on the trail for quite a few days and was eager to get to Bridgeport for a break. I got to the highway around 1:30 pm and caught a ride with the 2nd car (truck) that passed by. What luck. It’s a 30 mile hitch and I had been worried about it.
I did a zero day and will be heading back to the trail today (18th) but will be a bit late as I’m finishing up my blog posts. I don’t expect much milage today. I just want to get to the trail. Another difficult hitch.
On the top of one pass, there were huge numbers of sea shells of all types. A bit odd…
