Day 102

Oct 27
Miles:  15.7
PCT:  1139.9 – 1155.6
Total Miles:  1228.8
Elevation gain:  1544

This was another day of heavy snow in spots.  The weather was good and not too cold.  Once again, the snow proved easy on my feet, so I only had foot pain when hiking up or down south facing mountains where there was little snow and plenty of sharp rocks to jab my feet with glee.

It was a short day as it’s a town day and I only needed 15.7 miles to the highway.  Even so, it felt hard today.  I normally try to minimize the miles on the town days so there’s lots of time for hitching a ride and getting a hotel.  I was lucky and some day hikers gave me a ride into town as soon as I got to the highway.

I checked into one of the historic hotels that had shared bathrooms and no TV, microwave or refrigerator.  It was the only place under $100/night  I paid for two nights figuring I would do a zero day tomorrow.  There was a bus service so I could get to the grocery and laundry without too much walking.

I walked several mountain saddles today.  They give great 360 degree views.

    Hi Bill!
We are confused. :-/ The dots on the map do not appear to make much sense. You mentioned you were at Echo lake, but the map dots do not show you there. Incredible pictures with views to last a lifetime. Sounds like you need a foot masseuse. 😉 How far do you think you are going to be able to make it on the trail given the early snows?

I’ve had some trouble with the tracking mode of the Spot satellite communicator. It works sometimes. No foot masseuse for me. Too much of a tenderfoot. I don’t know how far I’ll get. I only look ahead one week at a time based on weather. I’m deep in snow right now but if it were any deeper, I would have to turn around.
