It was below freezing all night. My bag was warm and I was fine but I had to sleep with my water filter, as they will crack and be destroyed if they freeze. It’s becoming a habit as I don’t want to be without a filter. I filter all water, even if it seems safe from a spring. I take no chances and have not gotten sick as other hikers I’ve run into have.
This pond is mostly froze over. The pond I ran into just before this one was completely frozen but I needed water so I had to use my hiking pole to break a hole in the ice to extract the water.
Sometimes there are just too many signs….
My usual 5 minute break resting on a rock with a view.
