There were so many cool bridges on the trail, and I was always so grateful that I didn’t have to ford the streams or rivers they crossed. Some like this one must be very expensive to install. Helicopters must have been involved.
In some places, this was a common occurrence. But, most of the trails in CA are clear Oregon and Washington had some sections where you had to cross 30 – 40 blow down trees on the trail in a day. Some, like this one is easy to get past. Some start out looking impossible to pass, but there’s always a way.
This is another favorite position I use for breaks. I find a big fat tree on the side of the trail and straddle it, then lean back on my pack. It’s like a recliner chair and quite comfortable; though sometimes the bark can be rough on the butt. Boy, that hat is screwed up from machine washing. Still works though…
